The construction project with a budget of approx. 6 million Euros provides additional laboratory and offices spaces of approx. 1200 m2. Some of the new laboratories are equipped to perform experiments with high potent active ingredients (up to classification OEL 4). The new building the provides space for about 25 additional researchers.
Anyone visiting the construction site will have noticed that construction started in August 2021 and has made visible progress since then. After the celebration of the roofing ceremony in March, the windows and facade elements were installed, giving the building its final shape from the outside. Now the construction work shifted to the interior of the building. After the screed was built in and the piping for ventilation was mounted on the ceiling, the interior walls are erected. When these are finished, further work such as electrical wiring, installation of laboratory equipment, etc. will put the finishing touches to the building so that scientists can start work in 2023.
The DDIC is an open consortium of partners from industry and university with focus on research of pharmaceutical technologies and production. Besides research activities, the education and training of qualified young people is a main task of the consortium. DDIC@INVITE offers interested partners from academia and industry the possibility of collaboration on joint topics and access to the infrastructure.
The research center INVITE is a private-public partnership between TU Dortmund University, Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf and Bayer AG with focus on innovative production technologies for the chemical / pharmaceutical industry. The DDIC consortium is led by INVITE GmbH.
The EU supports this project to expand the research infrastructure with a funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF - or EFRE in German).
The ERDF supports under-developed regions with structural problems. In NRW, it is used in particular to finance measures which contribute to making businesses competitive and creating jobs in small and medium-sized enterprises. Additionally, the ERDF supports measures which advance innovations, research and technological development, as well as those which contribute to climate protection. It also supports local communities in NRW in their effort to integrate disadvantaged groups and to create a good living environment in its cities and districts.

EU-Förderung zur Erweiterung des DDIC
Zur Erweiterung des Drug Delivery Innovation Centers (DDIC) realisiert die INVITE GmbH einen Anbau an ihr Forschungszentrum auf dem Chempark-Gelände in Leverkusen. Durch das Bauvorhaben in Höhe von ca. 6 Mio. Euro werden mit weiteren ca. 1.200m2 Labor- und Büroflächen Kapazitäten für 25 zusätzliche Arbeitsplätze geschaffen, welche durch das DDIC zu Forschungszwecken genutzt werden. Ein Teil der Labore wird für die Forschung an hochpotenten Wirkstoffen, bis zu einer maximalen Klasse von OEL 4, ausgestattet.
Jeder, der regelmäßig an der Baustelle vorbeikommt, wird bemerkt haben, dass die Bauarbeiten im August 2021 begonnen haben seitdem sichtbar vorangeschritten sind. Nach dem Richtfest im März wurden die Fenster und Fassadenelemente installiert, wodurch das Gebäude von außen seine endgültige Form bekommen hat. Nun verlagern sich die Bauarbeiten in das Innere des Gebäudes. Nachdem der Estrich eingebaut und die Rohrleitungen für die Lüftung an der Decke montiert wurden, werden die Innenwände errichtet. Wenn diese fertig gestellt sind, werden weitere Arbeiten wie die elektrische Verkabelung, die Installation von Laborgeräten usw. dem Gebäude den letzten Schliff geben, so dass die Wissenschaftler im Jahr 2023 ihre Arbeit aufnehmen können.
Das DDIC ist ein offenes Konsortium aus Industrie- und Universitätspartnern mit einem Forschungsschwerpunkt auf dem Gebiet der pharmazeutischen Technologie und der pharmazeutischen Produktion. Neben den Forschungsaktivitäten ist die Aus- und Weiterbildung von qualifiziertem Nachwuchs eine Hauptaufgabe des Konsortiums. Das DDIC@INVITE bietet interessierten Partnern aus Wissenschaft und Industrie die Möglichkeit zur Zusammenarbeit an gemeinsamen Themen und den Zugang zur Infrastruktur. Das Forschungszentrum INVITE ist eine Private-Public Partnership zwischen der TU Dortmund, der HHU Düsseldorf und der Bayer AG mit Schwerpunkt auf innovativen Produktionstechnologien für die chemisch-/pharmazeutische Industrie. Die INVITE GmbH führt das DDIC-Konsortium.
Die EU fördert dieses Vorhaben zur Erweiterung der Forschungsinfrastruktur mit finanziellen Mitteln des Europäischen Fonds für regionale Entwicklung (EFRE).
Der EFRE unterstützt Regionen mit Entwicklungsrückständen und Strukturproblemen. In NRW finanziert er insbesondere Maßnahmen, die dazu beitragen, Betriebe wettbewerbsfähig zu machen und Arbeitsplätze in kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen zu schaffen. Außerdem unterstützt der EFRE Maßnahmen, die Innovationen, Forschung und technologische Entwicklung voranbringen, einen Beitrag zum Klimaschutz und dem Schutz der Umwelt leisten und die Kommunen in NRW dabei unterstützen, benachteiligte Gruppen zu integrieren und die Städte und Quartiere lebenswerter zu gestalten.
